KEEP YOUR KEY FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS IN GOOD HEALTH

The fire alarm is easily one of the most important fire safety systems you can have. Essential for providing early warning to a building's occupants, it undoubtedly saves lives. This means that making sure your fire alarms are fully functional is a must. Routine serving ensures that your alarm will work correctly if it is ever needed, and minimises the chance of false alarms.

HT Compliance Services is fully equipped to offer fire alarm servicing throughout Oldham and the wider area, helping you to keep on top of your fire safety commitments, and comply with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Our team will provide a comprehensive servicing report to advise on whether the system is functioning as it should be. If any defects are found we will bring these to your attention, and can rectify them as necessary.

We aim to become your first choice for fire safety. Our experts can also assist with extinguisher servicing and fire risk assessments.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED AN ASSESSMENT?

BS5839 part 1 suggests that your fire alarm system should be inspected at least every 6 months. If you have larger premises, where there may be more alarms and more complex systems, the recommendation is for quarterly inspections to be carried out. Frequency also depends on what type of system you have, as some require additional attention.

KEEP ON TOP OF FIRE SAFETY

Whilst annual, bi-annual or quarterly assessments need to be carried out by a professional, businesses should conduct their own weekly inspections:

  • Carry out a visual inspection of fire alarms for obvious signs of damage or vandalism

  • Conduct weekly tests of the alarm system from at least one alarm point, to ensure the alarm is functioning and your system panel recognises the alert signal.

  • Ideally this will be at the same time/day every week, and using a different alarm point each time.

  • Ensure your teams/employees are aware of your fire safety protocol (e.g. knowing where fire safety points are), and when tests take place.

A test of the alarm should be only last between 5 and 60 seconds, to help staff differentiate between a test and a real fire situation.

“I have been using HT Compliance as my preferred working contractor for several years, bringing them with me from job to job due to their efficient support and competitive rates. Their service level is top notch and very responsive, they have also been very good at working with me  (their client) rather than trying to scaremonger, dictate or upsell. A definite thumbs up for anyone looking for electrical or fire maintenance solutions!”
